<image:caption>This is an experiment at reinterpreting the traditional southern "dog trot" house into a modern structure. It was a competition entry that used regional building practices, and vernacular lessons to adapt to a southeastern climate.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Design - Bike Rack- (Award winner)</image:title>
<image:caption>The concept behind this simple bike rack design is to make it as multifunctional as possible, within the boundaries of budget and space. This design allows for bicycle storage, rest, work, or congregation for cycle riders and pedestrians. The rack also functions as a novel mode of marketing for any business, allowing it to reach outside the boundaries of their business walls and have customers interact with the public. The frame construction is painted steel tubing of varying dimensions, with a tough resin based tabletop to allow for eating, working, etc. The tabletop is held off the frame with standoffs. The bicycle wheels roll into the rack's "sleeve" allowing it to stand alone and therefore allow the rider to use the cycle itself as a seat. The sleeve is constructed of steel plating sandwiched between reinforced rubber. The rack is held to the site with "saris" auger type earth anchors specifically designed for this purpose. The bike rack can be configured with only one direction of entry or with two facing paths of entry. It can also be configured side by side to create a row of racks/tables.  </image:caption>
